A naturally occurring phenomena, the sphere is a balanced circumference of pressures. The sphere exerts equal force in all directions, sheltering like constituents and enforcing a barrier of exclusion. Due to it’s perfection the form is inherently isolationist and elitist, naturally compelling our affinity and reluctance to engage with it. More common are the porous spheres, spheres of influence, echoing socio-political or cultural alignment: a breakdown of formal Euclidean or Platonic notions in favor of ambiguous, ever-shifting tenuity and alignment.

Culture Laboratory Collective offers its own tensions of praxis as a microcosm of the continual struggle for gravitational stasis: neither collapsing nor exploding over the last five years, the group has continually exhibited as a means to evolve and maintain individuality within a group context.

So Say We All… Sort Of…

The Culture Laboratory Collective comprises a diverse group of artists working loosely around the question of social cohesion within the context of aesthetic fragmentation. While focusing collectively on a synthetically established social identity the work presented paradoxically strives to break free of group-think aesthetics in favor of the individual voice, the point of dissonance opposing the attempt at collaborative cohesion. Retaining a focus on craft and the object, Culture Laboratory Collective operates as an ongoing investigation in media interchangeability and aesthetic fluidity.

Our first exhibition “So Say We All… Sort Of…” was at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. J.D. Durham, curated and coordinated the exhibition. On Friday, July 31st 2009 we had the Closing Reception at 5PM and the Gallery Talk at 3PM.
